Kawakami and Papa win awards

Tim Kawakami was named California sportswriter of the year by National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Tim richly deserves this award. I’ll have to try harder in 2013. Greg Papa got named California sportscaster of the year — also richly deserved. Congrats to both.

Killion and Kawakami on Kaepernick

Granted, I have been a little out of it lately, my head draining and all that jazz. I seem to be coming around this morning, at least I hope I am. Guillermo Mota and moral indignation I don’t have

Sportswriters around the country are down on the San Francisco Giants because they employed Melky Cabrera and now they have brought back Guillermo Mota, two known drug cheaters. Tim Kawakami wrote a provocative column that ran this morning in the Merc. Tim made two main points: Cabrera clearly aided the Giants as they hold onto first place. Kawakami on Alex Smith

Tim Kawakami of the Merc wrote an interesting and amusing blog on Alex Smith’s incredible longevity with the Niners. I mean you can’t get rid of this guy — Smith, I mean, not Kawakami. If nothing else Alex Smith has staying power and frankly he does not have much else. The Niners should have cut ties with him long ago, and he should have cut ties with the Niners.
