Brian Sabean spoke about his team after today’s 2-1 victory over the Dodgers. Here are selected quotes.

On acquiring lefty Javier Lopez:

“That’s our acute need (left-handed relief). We’re vulnerable. We’re in a negative leverage situation. Everybody knows we have two guys out. Obviously we didn’t want to give up anybody who would help us this year.”

On why he didn’t acquire a hitter for a pitcher:

“We had one situation that went down to late last night and very early this morning. It just didn’t come to fruition. It was kind of an offbeat angle. It was always the same mantra on the other side of the ball. It would have to be Sanchez or Bumgarner. We just couldn’t cover the loss of one of those pitchers. We have to get every inning out of every starter. At the end of the day we’re pleased with where we’re at. Sometimes it’s a function of the outside world. The outside world wasn’t too friendly and accommodating.”

On the final two months of the season: “It’s going to be a rough two months. These games are taking on playoff gravity. It’s going to be two months of playoff games.”
