Tonight was an interesting night on Comcast. I was there with Tompkins, Papa, Poole and Urban. Lively conversation. Papa gave us two quizzes and I love quizzes.

1. Who is the most beloved Bay Area athlete since Joe Montana?

That’s a good one because it’s delightfully vague and you can make anything you want out of it. We all said Tim Lincecum is the most beloved since Joe. It bothered me not to name Steve Young. We also didn’t name Jerry Rice and we considered Barry Bonds but couldn’t name him. There is something about Lincecum that appeals to people — they call him Timmy as if he’s a younger brother. Monte said he looks regular and fans can imagine themselves doing what he does, not that they could do it.

Do you vote for Lincecum as the most beloved since Montana?

2. Who made the biggest imprint on the 49ers? The wording was a little different but that was the gist of it. The contestants were Rice, Montana and Bill Walsh. We all agreed Walsh had the biggest imprint. He created the whole thing and was a visionary.
