Very spirited here today on the Zohn. I love the give and take and appreciate how fierce all of you are but also how polite we keep things on the Zohn

So, here’s another thought of mine and then, please, have at it.

Some Zohners say I am down on Jim Harbaugh or don’t like him or refuse to give him a chance.

I don’t believe that’s true. Here’s where I am coming from. First or all, I endorsed Harbaugh for coach of the Niners. I still think he was the right choice.

But I am a columnist and I look at things analytically. I do not like to take the company line or a line that says I need to make fans happy. I take my own line.

And along those lines I don’t like that Harbaugh anointed Alex Smith his starting quarterback — you know that.

I don’t think Harbaugh did anything special in New Orleans. I know it was an exhibition game, but you can’t expect me to praise him for what happened.

I expect him to do well as 49ers coach, but I don’t know he will do well. It’s all to be determined. I will judge him on results, nothing else.

And until there are real results, I’ll analyze what I see and tell you what I think and, most of all, I won’t root for or against him. Rooting is not my job.
