We all know the 49ers have suffered more than other teams because of the lockout. Other teams have continuity but the Niners have a new coach and a new offensive system not to mention a new defensive system.

When training camp started coach Jim Harbaugh went to great pains to explain that his team was behind. If training camp was July, the Niners were in March or something like that. Great excuse. Great use of the calendar, Jim.

So here’s what I want to know. If the real calendar says this is late September, what month are the Niners in? Are they in June? Have they peaked into July? How long can they keep this calendar excuse going?

I want to point out that Carolina has a rookie QB in Cam Newton and a new offensive system but their offense is exciting and productive — unlike the 49ers’ safety-first offense — and Carolina seems to be in September.

So tell me what month are the Niners in?
