This is what I recently learned on the Cohn Zohn and on my son’s blog where people also refer to me. I am too old for my job and should retire. I am the wrong religion and someone should light me on fire because of that. I don’t know anything about sports. I am a bad writer. I am stupid. I am rude to other guests on Comcast and should be banned from the show. I am ugly. I am afraid of Jim Harbaugh. I am not half the man Jim Harbaugh is. I am sexually attracted to Jim Harbaugh, and if I’m not, my son is.

There may be more stuff, but I’m blanking on it. Well, I’d say it’s quite an honor that people have so many opinions about me. I’ve learned I must have a pretty strong ego to read all this stuff. Someone else might go off his rocker. As you can imagine, I trash comments of this nature, but in the interest of honest reporting I want to share the gist of them with you. Anyway, that’s what I learned.

The internet’s gross. Nothing you can do about that if you choose to be on it.

    all true, all too true…..LOL

tell Stan to stop blogging during Happy Hour

A variety of social ills have come to your doorstep. I’m amazed you read it. I hope you continue the high standard of objective, uniquely opinionated, sports writing that you’ve set for yourself through the years.

Lowell, there’s a program about Mike Singletary on the NFL Network. It is embarrassing to watch, especially watching him slam the players in red and gold on the sidelines. He cannot coach, he just yelled platitudes. The guy is a moron, he should never have been allowed near the controls of the Niner’s organization.
    .
Count your blessings, you could be that him. In the meantime, know that even if guys like Blind Tom get on your case when you do the “smirk,” when you are on your game you are the best sports writer in the area and when you really try you are an All Star. Have a good evening, I don’t care if you add this to your blog. FWIW, my back is killing me. This 67 business blows… -L-

Lowell, your one of the best columnist around. Your a must read with me when you discuss the Giants and the Niners. Also Grant is doing a good job, ofcourse he is green and will learn from his mistakes, most of the people who bash him are just plain unhappy losers.

Lowell I’m curious, back in the pre-Internet days at the Chronicle you must’ve got a lot of mail (of the snail variety). How did those letters compare to the blog comments?

I’ve learned that you are conscientious and principled. That a disagreement an opportunity to possibly expand one’s view.

I thoroughly enjoy you writing and have since the Green Sheet days.

Thankfully you can ignore the idiots who post such trash.

    Keep up the great work

Lowell I can’t read your son’s column because of the whole 49erGirl mentality where people flirt and act like it’s a dating site. Between that and the mud slinging it is limited mostly to the slingers and the swingers as the only interested readers. So what I’m trying to say is don’t take it personally, aka the old testament verse, “Don’t throw your pearls before swine.”

Try umpiring or reffing. :) Heck students have offered me their scholarships so I can learn something…

But if you have learned this, what are you going to do about it? You are not a woe is me person, so this must appeal to your sense of humor. That which doesn’t kill you, makes you laugh?

If you really want to be negative about the nature of man, watch ‘Dark Matter’s on Comcast’s On Demand, and watch the episode of George Price and altruism.
I’m telling you nothing is “free will”..nothing. Its an allusion. Fate/DNA/Evolution/The Universe is all ruling, from being born to the grave.
Or read about George..it makes the episode even sadder. A good man.

No soy monedita de oro. “I’m not a gold coin”

Worked with a woman from Mexico City that taught me that saying. Basic idea is to except that not all people are going to like you.

I like you, Mr. Cohn. Keep up the great work.

Joe Sanchez, It was rare to get a really offensive letter when I was at the Chron. It’s easier to trace letters and it takes the writer more time to write one, etc.

As we said in the Marine Corps, those comments are a ration of crap (another word would be used).

Those critics are ill-informed jerks. While I don’t always agree with your opinions, I don’t care how old you are or what your religion is–and I think you are pretty up on sports. Plus, I appreciate the quality of your writing.

Please also learn that there are people reading your blog who have positive regard for you and for your work. Stay the course!

Lol, comes with the job, Well it comes with the job now of days. Everybody’s tough behind a keyboard and an open forum just perpetuates that behavior.

Keep your chin up Lowell, you’re not half bad most of the time, maybe you and JH can start dating?

You must be a pretty confidant person to read all the junk that gets thrown your way …I guess for the most part we should have fun (or be somewhat amused) because it is a reflection of the human condition….and yeah, i too am still thinking about Stan’s remark about Vogelsong……you think?

B-Rad, I’d really like to please everyone. But I know I can’t. I hope I please you most of the time. You are clever with numbers, and I learn from your lists and analysis.

The way I remember, when the Oakland hills fire sent smoke visible from Candlestick, you were there, reporting, at Candlestick.

You are one of the smartest and funniest and most aware commentators in the press. Welcome to the Press Democrat Zohn.

It’s kind of an afternoon splitting firewood sort of conversation on local websites, but your newspaper column is the best.

The area is also a good place to retire!

But read wide area blogs. The blogs here are unpleasant, like fueling the tractor, and lubing it and checking the air filter.

I have always enjoyed your takes, views and the exchanges back and forth, heck we have even agreed to disagree now and again. And the mere fact that you can evoke as much disdain and vitrol to me means you are doing your job in tackling some issues that may not be as nice or savory or perfectly PC. Just have to be what my parents called “being a good duck”. Just let it flow like water off a ducks back.

Of course, sometimes that can also mean duck and cover, but hey, nobody is perfect!

Keep it up my friend, if I may call you that.
