We are completely redoing our kitchen starting Monday. Mrs. Cohn Zohn is thrilled and so am I. She needs boxes to pack up our kitchen stuff and I said, sure, I could get some. I knew I could get boxes at Vintage Berkeley at College and Ashby and I always like to go to Vintage Berkeley, a unique wine shop, a one of a kind with a fabulous collection. Most wines are $25 and under, a steal for their quality. They also have a room for wines $25 and over, but the more expensive wines also are well priced. I also knew Vintage Berkeley had a Greek wine tasting on Friday night and I know nothing about Greek wine. So I cruised in ostensibly for boxes but really for the Greek stuff. Matt runs the shop and he has the best palate in the Western World. Once he sold me a Bulgarian chardonnay for nine bucks — Bulgarian chard? — and it was great. He let me taste some of the Greek reds he had left and I bought half a case. That made me very happy. The four boxes made Mrs. Cohn Zohn equally happy. If you visit Vintage Berkeley ask for Matt and tell him Lowell sent you. Actually, you don’t have to say Lowell sent you. I just wanted to write Lowell sent you. I never wrote that before.
