Click here for my Tuesday column about Colin Kaepernick, the Browns and the 9ers.
Lowell, I understand that you don’t think the 49ers are involved in leaking that Kaepernick lost the locker room.
How did you come to the conclusion that there was only one reason for Kaepernick being unhappy with the 49ers? Did a player release the data about how little Kaepernick was allegedly using his “pad” play book? Is is possible that Kaepernick might also be displeased with the medical advise he got from the 49er’s medical staff?
I am not so sure Kaepernick goes. Here is the problem as I see it.
The Browns 3rd round pick is only two picks after the Broncos 2nd round pick, which is what he 49ers claim they wanted. So it isn’t the pick that is the real problem here.
The problem as I see it is the Browns don’t want to pay Kaepericks salary next year. And who could blame them. Kaepernick isn’t worth that much to another team. And Kaepernick doesn’t want to take a pay cut to leave. Who could blame him?
He stays with the Niners this and hopefully he is able to prove he is worth what he is getting paid so the 49ers can trade him.
Injured or not, Bob Griffin was a much better QB than Colin ever was and probably ever will be. Too much credit is given to Colin for the success of the 49ers, the “he got them to a SB” remark, when in fact that team was SB bound with Colin or Alex, Colin was mainly along for the ride (in 4 of his 7 starts he threw 1 td or less & only once passed for more than 250 yards).
It has always seemed that its the Broncos who are the team that will make the trade for Colin. Rumored that they were willing to part with a 4th, if 49ers want a 2nd then why not meet in the middle, a 3rd in this draft and a 3rd in next years draft (surprisingly less than what KC gave for Alex).
Either way, I don’t think either of the two “once was” will be long for the NFL, athleticism will be their downfall and poor attitudes and hurt feelings will be the death knell.
They need to move him and my money is on the J-E-T-S.
He’s cheaper than Fitz…the Jets don’t need picks like the Browns do…so they give up the 3…and pay the $12 million.
Page six can trail ‘Kap & Nessa’ around to all the trendy clubs and the back page will love him if he gets the JETS to the playoffs.
@ MJ “Bob” Griffin “once was” because of athleticism until his amoral coach torpedoed him. With the injury he lost his speed and without his speed he’s no longer a remarkable NFL quarterback. That kind of speed made him able to get to places to set up, then complete, almost impossible passes. But Shanahan existed for himself.
Don’t know who I am more sick of hearing about. Kaepernick or Trump. Please go away.
Highly unlikely that Kaep will be leading any teams to the playoffs, especially the Jets. AFC is way too tough for the foreseeable future with, in the Jets division, you have the Pats, and then you have the Bengals/Steelers locking down playoff spots for the next 5 years(Balt might sneak in too), KC is going to overtake the AFC west (and as hard as it hurts to say, the Raiders will be contenders), and Indi & Houston will be tough in the South. Its going to be 2 spots for 6 or so teams (Oak, Hou, Cinc, Balt, Buf , NYJ).
Colin thinks its tough here, he’d be regretting that decision forever if he gets to NY/NJ.
To quote the great Huey Louis…never underestimate, “THE POWER OF LOVE”…
Colin loves ‘Kap’, $$$, and Nessa in that order.
NY is the only place he gets all three.
Elway won’t pay him, Cleveland O line will kill him, Nessa won’t visit either place…
@Stan, that may be true, and I have no problem with him going (good riddence), but if I were him, I wouldn’t go to a situation where not only will it be much more difficult, the magnifying glass will be 10 fold more intense.
@Maypo. Too much is made of athleticism (freakish athleticism) today. If you look throughout the NFL history of the most successful QBs (stats & champs), you’ll find guys who are better suited to be accountants than athletes (Montana, Brady, Marino, Brees, Aikman, Bradshaw, an old Elway). Those guys weren’t 4.4 40 guys, only Marino had a rocket arm but he was as mobile as FDR. The guys who are uber athletes mostly flame out. Everyone 3 years ago was all in love with Colin but he’s nothing more than Cam Newton who was nothing more than Donovan McNabb & Mike Vick who were nothing more than Randall Cunningham. Steve Young was the most mobile great qb and he didn’t become great until he became a qb and not just an athlete. Thats why I don’t think Colin or Bob or Cameron will ever be great.
Well it seems that the Browns have moved on from the Niners playing games and have signed RG III.
Would not surprise me to see Elway and the Broncos do the same.
All of this points to the Niners front office once again overestimating a player and falling flat on their faces.
And to another year, at 11 million plus, of Kap with the Niners.
It just gets worse. All the time.
