In response to my blog about whether to fire Mike Nolan if he enters the bye with a 3-5 record, lots of Cohn Zohn readers have suggested Mike Singletary as interim coach. I understand the idea — it’s based on craving a guy who has a reputation. Singletary is a HOF player after all.

My problem is that he’s an unknown. He is a sincere, nice guy but there is nothing to suggest he could be a good head coach.

If York fires Nolan at the bye, how about this? Let Mike Martz finish out the season. If the team shows progress you consider keeping him. If not, outa here.

Possible choices if Martz flops: Cowher, Schottenheimer, Billick.
