Zohn reader Jason asked a good question about my recent blog post on weasels.  “The PD actually pays you to post stuff like this???!! Really?”

I’m saddened Jason didn’t like my post on weasels, one of my favorites in a long time. But I accept his judgment. It’s the payment issue I want to address. Jason is not the first person who’s written to the Zohn wondering with astonishment or irony if the PD pays me to write “stuff like this” on my blog. I want to answer the question with a question. Jason, do you pay to read this stuff?

The PD does not pay me to write blogs, as far as I understand it. I write four columns a week for the PD and that’s a lot of columns. The blogging is voluntary. At first I did it strictly because I love the PD — I really do and have had a blast writing for the PD. After a while, I got to love blogging, too. Blogging is different from column writing, less serious, more off the cuff, more informal, shorter. I am a different me in a blog than a column. I’m on vacation now. I’m not writing columns but I’m still blogging.

So, you bet, I blog for free. And, Jason, I’m happy you can read me for free. I hope that answers your question.
