Who is a better coach, Mike Singletary or Tom Cable? It’s a fair question. We compare coaches all the time.

Neither has been a world beater. Neither has had a winning season. So maybe the bar isn’t high yet, but we still ask, who’s better?

Singletary did one enormous thing. He rescued Vernon Davis. We saw it happen right there on the field when Singletary took over and sent Davis to the locker room. The result? Davis saw the light and became one of the best 49ers and one the top tight ends in the business?

Show me something similar Cable ever did. Whom did he rescue? What mark of any kind has he put on the Raiders? Until further notice, I consider him an offensive line coach pretending to be a head coach. I hope he has the goods to prove me wrong.

He failed with JaMarcus Russell. Probably anyone would fail with Russell. I’ll say this, Singletary might have done a better job with Russell. Might have. Singletary seems able to reach players. Can Cable?
