One more thing about Lincecum’s Sunday game. I mentioned he made the media wait a long time before appearing after the game — maybe an hour. I forgot to mention this.

After we waited that long time, Brian Wilson walked out of the shower. He saw the media crowd near Lincecum’s cubicle and muttered something. He marched across the locker room to the players’ off-limits eating room — off limits to the press. About a minute later, Lincecum walked out of the off-limits room, went to his locker and spoke with us. So I’m making an assumption.

I’m assuming Wilson went up to Lincecum and told him to get out to his locker and talk. I can’t prove this but I think it’s a pretty good assumption. If I’m right, Wilson told Lincecum he had to swallow his disappointment and speak, as the starting pitcher is required to do. And, as a player in a sport which places a premium on machismo, Wilson demanded Lincecum to man up.
