Jay Mariotti, sportswriter and sports TV guy, got arrested for domestic violence. He has been convicted of nothing. He works sometimes for ESPN and they are looking into his case. This could be embarrassing for ESPN and deadly to Mariotti’s career.

I don’t know Mariotti, never met him, hardly ever read him and don’t watch much TV so I have no opinion of him one way or another. I do notice people — especially in the media — seem gleeful about his potential fall. Roger Ebert, a respected journalist, republished a column he wrote after Mariotti left the Chicago Sun Times laying into Mariotti. To read it click here.

Maybe media people have a right to glory in what’s happening to Mariotti — I don’t know. So I’m asking two questions: 1. Why do people feel gleeful if this guy is in trouble? 2. How do you feel?
