Brian Wilson is the strongest-minded pitcher on the Giants — starter or reliever. The Giants are in danger of wasting this exciting season and slipping out of playoff contention. They needed someone — as in a pitcher — to step up bigtime on Sunday and halt the skid and tell the Diamondbacks to buzz off. Matt Cain did that to a certain extent. And good for him.

But Brian Wilson really did it. He came in when the universe was buckling and he restored order. He is the embodiment of what Giants pitchers need to be — I’m talking about Tim Lincecum, Barry Zito and Jonathan Sanchez. To read my Monday column about Wilson click here.
