Just before Cal started playing Davis a few minutes ago, the Cal marching band did its thing — lovely blue uniforms, traditional marching and music. The pomp and ceremony is terrific, everything a college band should be.

As Zohn readers know, I spent 6 years at Stanford as a grad student. I love Stanford. But I don’t love the Stanford band — such a silly mess. Many of the Stanford athletes don’t like it and feel it doesn’t represent them. I wish Stanford would have a fine traditional band like Cal.
