Notice the headline on this entry — Zito not so bad. That is different from being good.

On Comcast tonight I said Zito is not a good pitcher and he’s holding back the Giants. Marty Lurie said Zito would pitch well tonight. Zito pitched well tonight in the sense of giving up only two runs. So I defer to Marty.

But I want to point out that Zito had the lead — as he did in his previous start — and gave it up. He is the man who gives up leads. If the Giants score one run he allows two; if the Giants score two he allows three. It’s a pattern.

Question: If the Giants were to enter the playoffs right now should Zito be one of the their starting pitchers?

Answer: No way.
