It’s looks like it’s bye bye, Nellie.

Lots of reports he’s stepping down Monday and assistant Keith Smart will take over — I will write my Sunday column about Nelson, but a few quick thoughts.

He was toxic for the Warriors at the end. He was bored, tired, uninterested, hardly did any work, delegated so much to his assistants, didn’t get along with too many players, saw the media as the enemy. He was just a drag.

And he was dragging down the team. No way a new ownership — still pending — could allow him to be the face of the franchise. The face would be a frown.

Smart, from what I understand, is okay. I never heard he’s Red Auerbach. We’ll find out soon enough just what he can do. Here’s what he has going for him. He’s not Don Nelson. Anyone would be better than Don Nelson.
