Here are some raw quotes from Brian Wilson immediately after the game, column to follow. Please forgive any typos.

Re: Buster Posey after the Giants clinched: “It’s the first time I’ve seen some absolute, unadulterated craziness out of that guy. I thought he was going to punch me and I was totally accepting of it. I was planning a reason to thank him if he did.”

“Our starting pitching is the best in baseball right now. We’ve just got to trust in what we have.”

On why the Giants won the West: “It starts with the clubhouse. We’ve got a loose atmosphere. We brought a lot of guys in with different personalities and the GM did a wonderful job of picking guys like Huff, Pat Burrell, Guillen. There was a lot of speculation about that guy’s attitude but nobody has a bigger passion for the game than he does and if that means fighting somebody for it I want him on my side in a war.”

Re Jonathan Sanchez: “You couldn’t have asked for a better guy to step up in a situation like that. He’s the one of the hardest guys to hit off in baseball and he proved it. Absolute warrior. He went out there and gave five of his best innings he possibly could, didn’t give in. And the next guy came out and got him out of a jam and the next guy until the game was over.

Where were you when Posey hit his homer? “I was standing next to our bullpen coach who actually called the home run. He said don’t worry, Willy, Buster’s going to hit a home run right now and that pitch he did.”

Re: the team never losing heart. “We’ve got a bunch of veterans in here, a couple of guys who’ve been to postseason. We said we can’t worry about losing yesterday. We’ve got to come into this series and just win one. We can’t get in a panic mode. What we need to do is come into the bottom of the first tied. The starting pitcher needs to needs to come out with a zero and we’re going to win the game from there.

Any tightness in the clubhouse before the game? “We were bumping music, guys were playing dominoes – just a regular game. We can’t change anything for the biggest game of the year.”

Re relievers: You’ve got to give props to the GM for bringing in guys like Javi Lopez and Ramirez, the guys have been unhittable. They haven’t faltered at all. They’ve gotten the job done. I haven’t done much this season. The guys have been setting me up so all the props go to them.”

How good are Giants’ chances of winning the world series? “Extremely good because we’re in it. We’re in the playoffs. You don’t want to face us cause we’re nasty.”

On the starting pitching: When you’ve got a guy who goes out there and toes the rubber and comes into the bottom of the first without giving up a run, you’re giving our offense a chance. If we score one run and give us a lead, the starting pitching is going to take it five six seven innings and Bochy’s done a great job with the bullpen.

About the clubhouse celebration: “This is something we wanted to do Friday and Saturday but for it to be on the last possible game of the season it couldn’t have been more of an emotional game than if we won it Friday or Saturday. This is probably the best feeling and the best scenario we could have had.”

On Atlanta winning: This is what I didn’t want and I know a lot of guys felt the same way. We didn’t want Atlanta to lose so both of us are toasting right now. We don’t want to come in the clubhouse after a win and have San Diego toast. We don’t want them in the playoffs. We want Atlanta to win and we want to put them out. Sorry, that’s just baseball.”

Re: Huff: “You couldn’t ask for a better guy to come to the clubhouse as far as personality, defense – a lot of people said his defense was suspect but the guy’s been unbelievable over there. And not to mention 26 homers. Leading the team in hits, RBIs, home runs. Without him where are we?

How is this year’s team different from last year’s team? “A couple of guys coming in and adding on that have been to the postseason or that are veteran hitters that can take a professional at-bat, that can go 0-2 and bring it to 2-2 and get that hit with two outs to start something. Last year we just had a bunch of talent but realistically we were young and inexperienced.”
