In today’s column I assign plenty of blame to Mike Singletary for being an inadequate head coach — which he sure seems to be. But I want to keep things in perspective. Sure, Singletary deserves blame — unless he miraculously turns the season around.

But by far the most blame goes to Jed York for hiring Singletary in the first place, for hiring him without talking to any other coaching candidates, for failing to go through a professional interview process in which he actually could have compared candidates and maybe even learned a few things.

The blame for the current blowup of the Niners goes to Jed York for putting Singletary in a position he never should have been in. Way to go.
