Congratulations to Ron Washington and the Texas Rangers. Congratulations for eliminating the Yankees. The Giants hope they can meet the Rangers in the World Series.

A word on Ron Washington. When he was an A’s coach I could go to him and ask a question and he always answered in depth and politely. He was smart and he was a gentleman and he still is and don’t tell me about cocaine.

I want to point out that he is in the Series and Mike Quade, another former A’s coach, is the new manager of the Cubs. Yet the A’s have Bob Geren as manager. Both Washington and Quade are superior managers to Geren. So are Art Howe and Ken Macha. So why is Geren the A’s manager?

FYI, I arrived in Philly after a ten hour travel day, long layover in Houston because of mechanical problems. Happy to be here. Eager for Saturday’s game — pushed back to prime time at 5 pm Pacific because the Yankees are history.
