I was driving around this morning listening to sports talk radio. I heard lots of people say Michael Vick is a good quarterback — he is — and they’re glad he’s back in the NFL because he paid his debt to society and he deserved a second chance in the league and that’s the American way to give someone a second chance.

Vick is in the NFL because the Eagles thought he could help them. Some teams would sign Dracula if they thought he could help them.

Vick did not deserve a second chance and no one owed him a second chance. When he paid his debt to society by going to the slammer that did not mean he deserved a job in the NFL or the NFL owed him one.

If you killed dogs for sport and went to jail and got fired from your job for it and came out a few years later, could you go to your former employer and say you deserve your job back or could you tell your employer he/she owes you a job? Preposterous.

So praise Vick all you want for his play but don’t say he deserves or is owed anything.
