It is of interest to 49er fans that Jon Gruden does the color on Monday Night Football, which means tonight for the Niner/Arizona game. It is of interest because Gruden has been rumored to be in the mix for new 49er coach. Rumored is too strong a word. There has been speculation by people who don’t know one way or another that Gruden may be in the mix. I am one of those speculators.

Gruden would be a good coach for the Niners — he runs the West Coast offense for starters and he has won a Super Bowl. I don’t know if he can be his own general manager. I don’t think so. The Niners owners would have to come up with big money for him and they’d have to give him lots of authority. Even so I’m not sure the 49ers job would be attractive to him or anyone who has pride.  It will be interesting to hear Gruden talk about the 49ers tonight and about their substandard quarterbacks.

The Niners could win tonight, putting them one back in the division standings such as they are. Even if the 49ers win this crummy division the Yorks must fire Mike Singletary. The NFL should eliminate the NFC West until it proves worthy of serious consideration.
