Mike Singletary was subdued at his Monday news conference. He’s been subdued lately, not ranting and raving all over the place. I think he finally understands how difficult it really is to be a real head coach in the National Football League. I think he’s finally beginning to appreciate what goes into the job — I don’t think he understood any of that before. I wrote my Tuesday column about his new demeanor and what it may mean as the Niners head to San Diego Thursday night for a game which will tell us if the 49ers are for real or if the Seattle blowout was an illusion.
