This is about Trent Baalke yet again. This guy never got so much ink.

Jed York simply cannot promote him to GM.

Of course, Jed can do anything he wants, but making Baalke general manager would be a dreadful mistake. Even if Jed goes through a long interview process and then, convinced Baalke is the best, makes him GM it is a mistake. It will look like the interview process was a phony so Jed could rubber stamp Baalke whom he wanted all the time.

It will look like Jed promoted Baalke because he wants someone he feels comfortable with — hardly the best reason for making someone the GM. And it will look like Baalke mesmerized young Jed just as Mike Singletary mesmerized young Jed.

And besides, Baalke is not the best candidate. As Ira Miller pointed out yesterday on the Zohn, Jed needs someone from outside the organization, someone with a pair of fresh eyes, to lead the team.

From my point of view, Baalke is part of the old bad regime and he should not be rewarded or promoted based on that alone.
