The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting the Niners will pursue Jim Harbaugh to replace Mike Singletary as head coach, and will get serious after Monday’s Orange Bowl.

The article also says, yet again, Trent Baalke will be the new general manager and will make the presentation to Harbaugh. I won’t linger over the phony baloney scenario that will lead to Baalke being GM, if that in fact takes place. Let’s just say it is sickening in its lack of candor.

But what about Harbaugh? Will he be a good Niner head coach if they can get him?

I’ll start with the one negative I can think of. College coaches don’t always do well in the pros. That’s all I can think of.

Honestly, Harbaugh was fabulous at Stanford. He knows offensive football. He hires top assistants. And his players play hard for him. I believe the Niners will be lucky if they can get him.
