Grant (Iggy) my son has written a commentary for the Zohn taking issue with a column I wrote about the Bonds trial — I said it’s a waste of time. Grant disagrees — for this I will send him to his room without dinner. I post his commentary down below. Here goes:

This is Grant, the little Cohn, taking issue with my dad, the Big Cohn.

About a week ago he wrote a column defending Barry Bonds and most of you Zohners agreed with him, which blows my mind.

Only Randy took issue with this statement of my father’s: “I defend him because this trial is so out of proportion with what he did. He cheated at baseball and probably lied about it. Really? That’s it?”

This is not the kind of moral logic I usually read on the Cohn Zohn, and it’s not the morality my father taught me.

Bonds lied in front of a grand jury. That’s a serious offense. He deserves this trial. Society deserves this trial. It’s important to preserve the perception that you cannot lie to a grand jury.

Some of you say Bonds should never have had to testify to a grand jury in the first place. I say baloney. Balco was flagrantly breaking the law. Imagine “American Gangster” Frank Lucas selling Blue Magic crack along with peanuts in the aisles of AT&T Park. That’s Balco. You can’t let that slide.

I’m interested to see if your opinions have changed one week into the trial.

Fred, Gary, Bob in Pacifica, I’m looking at you.
