Although my father was a lawyer I rarely have been in courtrooms, so what I experience in the Barry Bonds trial — which the prosecution is lousing up — is all new to me. I am most struck by how polite everyone is. Call it super politeness. Very serious things are at stake for Bonds and for the prosecution but, for the most part, everyone is polite. You would think this was a seminar at a university, that’s how well-behaved people are. And I like it. I wrote my Monday column about Bonds and politeness and the irony that Bonds, who benefits from the politeness, was relentlessly rude during his baseball career. To read the column click here.
