By now I’ve read several articles about the Gary Plummer firing — the Plummer Affair. In each article he asserts the Niners did not fire him for talking about sex on Lady Brain but because he was critical of the team on the air. Maybe.

But slow down a minute. On Lady Brain Plummer talked about his technique for oral sex. He talked about his open relationship. He alleged 49er operatives acted as pimps for players with women in the stands. He alleged one player had sex with a groupie at the back of a bus while his family was at the front of the bus.

So, sure, maybe the Niners did not fire Plummer for what he said on Lady Brain but they should have. I don’t care if he criticized the team on air. What I care about is he was paid by the team. He represented the team. The team could have a reasonable expectation their employee would not engage in a tell-all about team sex practices and maybe the team could have expected him to lay off the oral sex talk. If I own the Niners I fire Gary Plummer for his performance on Lady Brain.
