This is a quickie before Billy Beane’s conference call. Last week after the A’s lost their tenth in a row to the Yankees, I went in search of Billy Beane. He was sitting in Bob Geren’s office. I asked him about how the A’s teach their catchers to handle runners at home — this was in the midst of Buster Posey recriminations. Geren was sitting at his desk and I already had asked him this stuff at his postgame conference but his answers made no sense. So I asked Billy in front of Geren as if Geren weren’t there. After a while Geren got up, walked into the bathroom, shut the door and took a shower. He must have felt tentative at the time. Now he’s gone.
