The Niners just signed Braylon Edwards to play wide receiver. They long have needed a tall wide receiver and now they have one. Good target. Questionable character. But this is not a game of choir boys.

I have a theory. Trent Baalke waited for the first wave of free agents to get signed. He knew they would be expensive and he didn’t want to play that game. He thought he still could pick up talent — we’ll know soon enough how talented — and he knew he could pick it up cheap, or at least cheaper.

So here’s my theory. Baalke read the book Moneyball and now he’s Moneyballing the Niners better than Billy Beane Moneyballed the A’s. Strange world this one.
