From what I’ve read Al Davis’ funeral yesterday was a simple, understated, lovely ceremony. I have a question though. Before I ask the question I want you to understand I am not criticizing or second guessing. I’m simply asking.

Does it seem to you his funeral came kind of late?

Let me give the background as I understand it. Jewish people — Al, me — bury their dead “as soon as possible.” I looked this up on the internet and kept getting the phrase as soon as possible. That means fast.

When my dad died and years later when my mom died I had to fly to New York that very day because things happen so fast. As I recall they were buried the day after I arrived in New York.

I wish someone out there could tell me if it’s unusual for Davis to be interred (in a vault as I understand) more than a week after he died. I understand he was a famous man and my dad and mom were not famous and that must have a lot to do with it. I’m just trying to get educated. Does anyone know about this and can you educate me on this?

I will be back with you later, I’m sure, with a column about Carson Palmer.

Rest in Peace, Al.
