On Friday night, Mrs. Cohn Zohn and I and family had dinner at the Bella Vista Restaurant in the hills above Woodside, Ca. This is a restaurant I love and I want you to know about it. It is an old roadhouse, built in 1927, and it sits among redwood trees high on Skyline Blvd. with sweeping views to the east of the Bay and Stanford and the Santa Clara Valley. I used to go there when I lived on the Peninsula and Mrs. Cohn Zohn and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner there 28 years ago.

The waiters wear tuxedos. Victor is one of them and he’s been at the BV 25 years. The food is what they used to call Continental. On the menu are selections like: oysters Rockefeller, Fettuccini a la Alfredo, escargot aux champignons, petrale sole meuniere, steak Diane, cherries Jubilees. It’s like taking a trip back in time and it’s a trip I never want to  miss.

We started the evening off with Manhattans. How elegant. And the wine and food were great. And after three hours — no one rushes you — we drove home across the San Mateo Bridge and told each other it’s great when what you hope happens really does happen. Bravo, Bella Vista.
