Barry Zito was horrendous in Philly on Tuesday night — the Phillies lit him up, crushed his substandard, not-major-league stuff. He had an excuse. He got the start on short notice because Tim Lincecum took ill. But come on, a pitcher pitches. A good pitcher could face that start and be at least reasonable. Not Zito.

So, does he make the postseason roster? I say, no way. He always has the ability to blow sky high and the Giants can’t afford that in a short series when every loss is monumental. They especially can’t afford him because they don’t hit well and have trouble coming back from big deficits. I say delete him from the postseason roster. It’s what he’s earned by dint of hard work.

On TV I said, as I recall, he does not stand a chance in hell of winning 6 games. So far I’m feeling pretty good about that devilish prediction.
