Bruce Bochy just finished his pregame media confab (don’t you love the word confab?) in which he spoke about the Giants’ hitting woes (woes — another cool word,). Here are selected quotes:

Re: Torres leading off today.

“See if he can jumpstart us here. No getting around it, we’re in a little rut here getting some runs on the board. So he gets a start and Ross goes down to the 7 hole, see if we can ignite this offense just a little bit.”

What makes you think the team is going to start hitting?

“I think we have the talent. That’s what I’ll start with, our new additions. They’re professional hitters. Carlos made hard contact four times yesterday. Pablo got 3 hits. The back end of the order’s hit a little bit of a skid. Aubrey has been getting better swings off. The results weren’t there yesterday. Those guys have done it. I have no reason to think they won’t get back on track.

Re: Beltran hitting cleanup today:

“I told him ‘I’m doing this to break it up, put you behind Pablo today.’ ”

Bochy said Beltran usually will bat third.
