Before we get to the Ryan Vogelsong Controversy, this must be stated. The Giants’ 4-0 victory over the Oakland A’s on Saturday was a textbook example of how the Giants want to play, need to play. Call it the Giants’ best-case-scenario template.

Here’s how it works. They get terrific, knock-your-socks-off starting pitching. They make no errors. They get one big inning — for them that means lots of hits and walks and strange little developments and runners rounding the bases. The bullpen takes over late and just blows the other guys away.

This is a very good template and the Giants followed it perfectly.
