The key moment of Wednesday’s game — the Tim Lincecum is back moment — came in the top of the seventh.

The Dodgers, who would not score a single run in the three-game series against the Giants, had runners at first and second with one out. Lincecum had thrown more than 100 pitches and he looked vulnerable. Vulnerable has been a theme in his life this season and so have meltdown innings.

Bruce Bochy was concerned. He started toward the mound, but his intentions were unclear. Was he coming to remove Lincecum? Two guys were throwing in the bullpen. Or was he merely coming to talk? Lincecum didn’t know. He studied Bochy’s gait. Bochy was jogging. This was a good sign. When Bochy intends to yank a pitcher, he walks slowly, like the hangman.
